M.W. Benney Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2048.
This commitment applies to our UK operations and covers Scope 1, Scope 2 and the five Scope 3 reporting categories required for Carbon Reduction Plans used in UK central government and NHS procurement.
Baseline emissions footprint
Baseline year 2025
The calendar year ending 31 December 2025 is our initial baseline reporting period. As this is our first Carbon Reduction Plan, the baseline year and current reporting year are the same. Future annual plans will compare performance against this baseline. The organisational boundary covers the UK operations of M.W. Benney Limited using the operational-control approach.
The figures use the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting 2025. Company activity data has been used throughout, including monthly waste reports covering January to December 2025.

Waste generated in operations
Our monthly waste reports record 279.164 tonnes of waste during 2025. Material streams sent to specialist recovery facilities have been matched to the nearest applicable recycling factor. Residue described as recovery has been treated as incineration with energy recovery. Inert waste and general waste have been treated conservatively as landfill because the reports identify landfill facilities but do not confirm the proportion recovered at each destination.

Reporting methodology and boundaries
Emissions are calculated in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent using activity data and the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting 2025. The approach follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard and the technical requirements for Carbon Reduction Plans. Electricity is reported on a location-based basis.
The required Scope 3 categories are upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, and downstream transportation and distribution. No separate upstream or downstream transportation emissions are recorded because the transport is undertaken using company-controlled vehicles and the associated fuel is already reported in Scope 1, preventing double-counting.
Emissions reduction targets
M.W. Benney Limited will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions over time and achieve Net Zero by 2048. Using the completed 2025 baseline of 67.407 tCO2e, we will establish measurable interim targets as further annual data becomes available. Progress will be reviewed at least annually through our environmental management arrangements, and each updated Carbon Reduction Plan will report performance against the 2025 baseline.
Carbon reduction projects and environmental management measures
These measures are in effect or planned and can be applied when delivering construction, building and maintenance contracts, including work for NHS organisations.
ISO 14001 environmental management
Certified to ISO 14001:2015 by Alcumus ISOQAR. Certificate 24331-EMS-001, initially registered 3 July 2024 and expiring 3 July 2027, subject to continued certification.
Fleet electrification
Our first electric van was introduced in July 2024, our first electric car in July 2025 and a second electric car in May 2026. Further EVs will be introduced at replacement where operationally suitable.
Route planning
The Re-flow operational management system supports route planning across sites, reducing avoidable journeys, mileage and fuel use.
Efficient office lighting
Our office uses LED lighting throughout, reducing electricity demand compared with conventional lighting.
Fuel and energy monitoring
Fuel, gas, electricity and EV charging data will be recorded and reviewed annually to identify reduction opportunities.
Waste management
Monthly data is recorded by material and treatment route to support waste prevention, reuse, segregation and recycling.
Supply chain and deliveries
We seek to consolidate deliveries, use local suppliers where practicable and engage suppliers and subcontractors on relevant emissions reductions.
Planned improvements to carbon data
- Continue recording petrol and diesel separately for company vehicles and plant.
- Retain meter and charging records confirming that EV charging is included in office electricity data.
- Continue measuring waste by type, weight and treatment route and obtain clearer confirmation of the final destination of general waste.
- Improve commuting records by capturing transport mode, vehicle fuel, distance and working pattern through an annual survey.
- Record any future third-party upstream or downstream transportation separately from company fleet fuel.
- Review and publish an updated Carbon Reduction Plan annually.
Declaration and sign-off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in accordance with the published technical standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and relevant NHS England requirements. It will be reviewed and updated annually.
